Eurocities

Eurocities is a large network of cities devoted to obtaining greater weight for local matters in the European Union (EU). Through its Economic Development Agency ¿Madrid Emprende¿, the City of Madrid is one of the members of this network of European cities which seek to have their interests represented as political units within the European block.

The attainment of a more dynamic Europe which gives greater weight to cities and the politics of national governments is the main aim of Eurocities, a large network of European metropolises including the city of Madrid. This body helps focus the issues affecting each member city to present them to the European Union (EU). Each city is thus given the chance to take active part in European politics, in the exchange of know-how between its members and in the promotion of the various national projects in the EU framework, for example.

Eurocities¿ aims consist of ensuring that the voices of each of the 115 cities comprising its network reach the EU, in addition to promoting transnational cooperation between the cities of its member states and creating a network of the great European cities which, in spite of their cultural, socioeconomic and political differences, share the same changes and solutions.

These cities share experiences regarding knowledge of urban challenge and success and the establishment of their dimension at the European level, through the various conferences, seminars, work groups and project meetings which are held on a regular basis.
